Ted Lasso co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis, 47, recently announced that the third season of his critically-acclaimed soccer comedy – premiering March 15 on Apple TV+ – will be the last.
Speaking Deadline this week, the comedian said, ‘This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.
”The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet – that being season three – it’s flattering.
He added: ‘Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.’
But there is a chance that Hannah – who plays Rebecca Welton, the owner of the show’s fictional soccer team – could be playing her beloved character for the foreseeable future, as Sudeikis is open to the idea of a spin-off.
‘Yeah,’ he told Deadline. ‘I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories.’
And Waddingham would certainly love to continue in the role, as she made clear to People last year: ‘I’m happy to play her until she ends up in a care home.
‘I am so invested in Rebecca’s world that I struggle to think that I will not see her and feel her coursing through my bloodstream anymore. I genuinely get quite emotional about it. There’s nothing about the show that I won’t miss.’
