Goodlife gym stabbing: fourth person charged after Comanchero associate killed

The fourth and final man accused of stabbing a Comanchero bikie associate to death outside a gym has been charged after a takeaway meal blew his cover.

Kyle Martin, 24, was arrested with his 24-year-old girlfriend after police surrounded a house on Albion Street at Warwick at 9.45pm on Saturday.

He is the latest person to be charged with murder after Levi Johnson, 23, was ambushed at a Goodlife gym car park in Carindale on Monday.

Thomas Friedrich Myler, 35,  Stuart Galloway and Luke Thomas Moore, both 34, are the other three people who have been arrested over the attack.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said police will allege Martin stabbed Johnson six times during the attack.

‘It will also be alleged, that even after that time, one member of the four that has already been charged continued to assault the deceased,’ he said.

‘This is a disgraceful act, it is a brutal assault, it is a coward assault.’

Police allege the men are part of a gang called 13 Kings and that one of the men stabbed Mr Johnson to get accepted into a bikie club.

‘At this stage there will be some matters out before the court, with respect to motive. I can’t go into that in detail (as) we are in the sub-judice period,’ he said.

‘But certainly some thought processes around the commission of this offence may go to inclusion on the mind of at least one of these accused, of getting into a motorcycle group upon the commission of this crime.

Superintendent Massingham said police managed to find Martin after following his girlfriend who had picked up takeaway food.

‘That food was sufficient for two people and was paid in cash,’ Supt Massingham said.

‘It was at that time I was confident we had our wanted person.’

He is believed to have made plans to leave the state and head for Western Australia.

Martin will appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday while his girlfriend will continue to assist police with their inquiries.

Up to 200 police and 60 detectives had been working around the clock over the past week to find the men allegedly responsible for the attack.

Martin’s arrest was a day after Myler was taken into custody following a police raid at a home on Skinner Avenue at Wellington point on Friday.

Brisbane regional crime co-ordinator Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said police would allege he buried guns at another property just before the arrest.

‘We were able to get assistance from PolAir and a short time after that a vehicle, a Mazda 323, left this (Wellington Point) address,’ he said.

‘That vehicle has been taken to an address in Chandler, where we believe the wanted person… buried a number of firearms on a property.’

Myler is understood to have had a falling out and split up with Martin following the stabbing.

‘It would appear from some words that were spoken tonight by this man (Myler) that that relationship is somewhat fractured and that’s obviously something we will be looking at in the coming days,’ Superintendent Massingham said.

Myler has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of motor vehicle, enter premises, authority required to possess explosives and drive vehicle not fitted with interlock.

His matter was briefly mentioned before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday and the case has been adjourned until October 4.

His girlfriend has not been charged by police and remains in questioning.

Two cars boxed in Mr Johnson’s vehicle before four men got out and started smashing his windows on Monday.

Mr Johnson ran away but two men caught up with him nearby, and he was stabbed multiple times.

‘It certainly is something that was ferocious, it happened extremely quickly and they were indeed passionate about completing their task,’ superintendent Massingham said.
