Girl in hospital after dog attack near Berwick Fields Primary School in Melbourne

Little girl, 12 and her pet are viciously mauled by two dogs after they escaped from a property and attacked her outside morning school drop-off

A girl was rushed to hospital after she and her dog were attacked by two other dogs in front of horrified children outside a school in Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to a street near Berwick Fields Primary School on Thursday morning  following reports a 12-year-old girl and her nine-year-old dog were bitten by two dogs that escaped from a nearby property.

It’s understood the girl was bitten on her hand during the busy morning drop-off period.

She was assisted at the scene by an off-duty paramedic before being taken to Casey Hospital, where she had since undergone surgery, the Herald Sun reported.

The injured dog is also recovering after undergoing a six-hour operation.

The girl’s father later took to social media to thank the community for their efforts in helping his daughter and dog.

‘Thank you to everyone who stopped to help today,’ he said.

‘The dogs have been caught and the owner has been identified.

‘We will leave it in the hands of the law.’

The girl’s mother added that she was grateful that her daughter and the dog were both alive.

The two dogs believed to be responsible have since been seized by Casey Council.

More to come.
