A five-year-old girl was found chained to a bed inside a filthy ‘house of horrors’ in Mexico after neighbors heard her screams.

Harrowing images show the child, whose name was not released by officials, with her right ankle strapped to a rusty metal chain. The chain was locked to the wooden frame of her small bed.

The San Luis Potosí state prosecutor’s office for Children and Adolescents Protection said Monday that it was still working on locating the girl’s parents after she was rescued earlier this month.

Authorities are working on locating the parents of a five-year-old girl who earlier this month was discovered by the police officers chained to her bed at her home in San Luis Potosí, Mexico 

Concerned neighbors in El Refugio, a town in municipality of Ciudad Fernández, tipped off authorities after hearing weird noises and screams coming from the property.

The Ciudad Fernández Municipal Police removed the girl from the home January 3, according to police director Alfredo Farías Carmona.

She had bruises on her legs as a result of the chain and was taken to a local hospital for a physical and psychological evaluation.

Mexican newspaper Excelsior reported that investigators found a small bucket which the child was forced to use a toilet.   

The small room was littered with dirty clothes and garbage, too.

The child remains in the custody of the Ciudad Fernández State System for Integral Family Development pending further notice.
