Former Miss Universe Australia Tegan Martin announces shock new career move as she takes a step back from social media

Tegan Martin has revealed a surprising new career change ahead of the new year.

The former Miss Universe Australia, 31, took to Instagram on Wednesday to showcase several of her achievements from the last year and announced she’s been studying a Bachelor of Health Science – and she is now in her final year.

She also explained her lack of social media presence and said she enjoys living a ‘private life’.

‘This year I’ve struggled to care for showing up on social media the way I used to,’ Tegan began.

‘Despite what you may think, sharing all facets of my life has never come naturally to me and I’ve had to dig deep to keep up (give me privacy and being present with my people any day).’

The Newcastle model went on to list her major accomplishments from 2023, which included delivering her ‘first key note “Health is Wealth” to over 80 business women at a Fiji Conference’, as well as co-authoring published papers and mini-series about health.

Tegan also revealed she is planning a ‘secret project’ with her best friend that is set to launch next year.

‘If you had asked me 5 years ago, I was “busy” but not aligned with my passion for health and wellness at all,’ she added.

‘This year everything became crystal clear. I’m finally living my purpose which brings more joy than I can put into words.’

Tegan concluded: ‘If you’ve not yet found your “thing” don’t give up, it’s worth the goddamn wait.’

Tegan competed in the 63rd annual Miss Universe competition in 2014 and finished in the top ten.

That same year, she was crowned Miss Universe Australia after representing her hometown Newcastle in the national competition.

She made headlines in 2017 when she claimed she was ‘too fat’ for Australia’s Next Top Model.

‘I was too fat for Next Top Model. They just said, like, they made out like I was ‘too commercial,” she said during her stint on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

‘I have always had curves like boobs and a bum … and that’s why when I lived in Paris I had to, like, starve myself to work.

She added: ‘It is disgraceful but lucky I am out of that patch now.’
