Former Everton and Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is back in football, penning a one-year deal at his new club.
The 33-year-old has been without a club since being released by the Toffees at the end of the 2021-22 season following the expiration of his contract.
Sigurdsson’s last competitive game came during a 5-0 loss to Manchester City on the final day of the 2020-21 season, but Lyngby could now offer him a route back into the game.
But he has now returned to football, putting pen to paper on a 12-month contract in Denmark.
Sigurdsson has joined Danish side Lyngby, and is excited to get back to playing following years away.

‘I hope that I can come in and contribute with a lot of experience and quality,’ Sigurdsson said.
‘I know that there are a lot of young and talented players in the team, and I really want to learn from me so that we can lift ourselves up together.’
Sigurdsson, who scored 67 goals in 318 Premier League games, will add a wealth of experience to Lyngby.
‘I have been very well received by the boys in the squad and they seem fantastic,’ Sigurdsson added. ‘I sense that it is a very well-balanced squad, and I am very happy to be here.’
Sigurdsson’s delight is shared in the boardroom, too.

Sigurdsson is excited about a new challenge and believes he can help elevate his team-mates
‘There is no doubt that we are incredibly proud and happy that we can present Gylfi Sigurdsson as a Lyngby player,’ club director Nicas Kjeldsen said.
‘Gylfi is a player from a tier that we cannot normally bring players from, which is why it is a testament to our club, environment and great development that we can attract a player of his quality.’
He added: ‘Gylfi has not played football in the past few years, which is why we will, of course, be patient with him.’
Sigurdsson started his career at Reading and signed for Tottenham after impressing for Hoffenheim and at Swansea on loan, before joining the Welsh side from Spurs in 2014.
Lyngby currently sit ninth out of 12 teams in the Danish Superliga, having played six of their scheduled 32-game season.
