Former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin delights fans as she stands in for Lorraine… yet viewers are left fuming over the show lead’s absence: ‘I want her amount of annual leave!’

Former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin stood in for Lorraine on Thursday’s show.

Fans swarmed Twitter during the programme to praise the host, who quit her long-running role on BBC Breakfast after almost 20 years on the show in 2021.

Lorraine is frequently absent from the show, with Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard acting as regular stand-ins for the host, however in October Louise made her debut as host following her move from BBC to ITV.

As well as praise for Louise, viewers were left grumbling over Lorraine’s absence – insisting the star dodges her role thus does not deserve the eponymous show title.

Twitter users penned: ‘I think someone should create a chart or something of how many times Lorraine has presented her show this year Vs other presenters. I genuinely think others have presented it more than her #lorraine…

‘Nah, sorry I’m not having it! How can a TV presenter have a show named after them but never show up for work? Lorraine Kelly is a disgrace! The show is presented by anyone but work-shy Lorraine. It needs renaming at this point!…

‘She’s gotten away with it for far too long… Why is “Lorraine” called “Lorraine”? She’s never on the show… I need the same amount of Annual Leave as Lorraine’.

When Louise quit BBC Breakfast in 2021, she explained: ‘I’ve loved being part of it, but I’ve decided it is time that I stopped setting my alarm for 3:40 – sometimes when I’m feeling very rebellious 3:46 in the morning – and I’m going to be leaving…

‘It’s not going to be for a while, and just before anything else I wanted to thank everybody who’s watching for your loyalty and support over all those years. I have absolutely loved being part of it…

‘I will really miss it. But it is time now to stop that alarm early in the morning, and thank you for watching all those years as well’.

Back in October, around the time of Louise’s first guest appearance, Lorraine was slammed for taking the half-term week off, despite having an adult daughter.

Fans of the ITV morning show pointed out that Christine Lampard stepped in as guest presenter – even though she has two young children, Patricia, five, and Freddie, two.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline last week: ‘Lorraine is now off for half term and will be back on Monday 6th November.’

Fans questioned why Lorraine was off instead of Christine, with one penning on Twitter: ‘Why is Lorraine off for half-term, she doesn’t have school age kids…

‘It’s half-term which means the woman with a 28-year-old takes the week off and the woman with toy young children does her show!…

‘So Christine Lampard, who has young kids, steps in and hosts Lorraine during half term so Lorraine Kelly can also have half term off. Her daughter is 29. Her and Susanna Reid both have an air of entitlement…

‘Ah yes. Lorraine has half term off despite her daughter not having been at school for about 20 years, only to be replaced by someone with school age kids. The usual makes-no-sense move’.

Elsewhere in the show, Andi Peters was left red-faced when he accidently called the host Christine Bleakley, her maiden name, instead of Lampard.

Christine, 44, is a doting mum to her two children, Patricia, age five, and Freddie, two, who she shares with her husband Frank Lampard.

Lorraine, 63, shares daughter Rosie, 28, with her husband Steve – who she married in 1992.
