Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler share stories about Dune 2 co-star Christopher Walken on ABC talk show

Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler shared stories about working with Christopher Walken on Thursday on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.

The young stars of Dune 2 made a joint appearance on the late-night talk show to promote the upcoming sci-fi sequel that also stars Oscar-winning actor Walken, 80.

A preview clip showed Walken as Shaddam IV, the Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe and head of House Corrino, in a dramatic scene with English actress Florence, 28, who plays his daughter Princess Irulan.

‘Did you know going in that Christopher Walken was going to play your dad?,’ Jimmy, 56, asked Florence who wore a white dress with spaghetti straps.

‘Oh, yeah, no. It was like a ”by the way, your dad is Christopher Walken”. I was like, ”Oh, thank god”,’ Florence said with a laugh.

Jimmy asked all of them if they got to interact with Walken and admitted to wondering what the legendary actor was like.

‘I did. I spent most of my days with him and Charlotte Rampling and Léa Seydoux, but mostly him. And all of our stuff was so intense. So I kind of was just with him in a room for hours,’ said Florence, who is a newcomer to the Dune sequel along with Walken.

‘Is he intense for hours as a human?,’ Jimmy asked.

‘No. He’s surprisingly silly. In between takes, he would be talking to me about his favorite kind of doughnuts,’ Florence revealed.

She said they would film a dramatic scene and then Walken would turn to her and ask her about her favorite kind of doughnut.

‘Like, jam-filled obviously,’ Florence said. ‘And then, we would go into another take of a really serious scene.’

‘Wow. I love that you got that. I didn’t even say anything to him,’ admitted Zendaya, 27, who rocked a black jacket with the bottom buttons undone along with matching leather pants.

‘Is that true?,’ Jimmy asked.

‘I was too nervous. What do I say? I mean, what do I say? I could’ve said, ”What kind of doughnuts do you like?” Now I know that,’ quipped Zendaya, who reprises her role of Fremen warrior Chani in the sequel.

‘What do you say? You know what I mean? I remember us in the trailer, everybody is having fun playing music, and as soon as he came …practicing my lines,’ Zendaya added as she mimicked going from dancing to reading a script in Walken’s presence.

Jimmy then asked Timothée, 28, and Austin, 32, if they also were nervous about talking to Walken.

‘I was pretty terrified to talk to him,’ Timothée admitted.

Jimmy asked if Walken shared any career advice with them and Austin said that he did.

‘When we were filming a scene with him the offer had just come in to do Saturday Night Live,’ the Elvis star said. ‘And I was so nervous, I wanted to say no.’

Austin said he asked Timothée, who previously hosted SNL in 2020, and anybody else who had done it before about going on the show.

‘I was just so terrified. At one point, I thought, ”Well, he’s done it so many times and he’s one of the best hosts.” So I said, ”Chris what do you think of Saturday Night Live? Should I do it?” He goes, ”You gotta do it. Just read the cue cards.”,’ Austin said while breaking into a spot-on impersonation of Walken.

‘That’s pretty good,’ Jimmy said. ‘That’s a solid Christopher Walken.’

Jimmy pointed out that Dune 2 also stars some ‘real legends’ including Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson and Dave Bautista and asked if there was a separation of the older cast and younger cast.

‘They were more wild than us, honestly,’ Timothée said.

‘For real?,’ Jimmy asked.

‘I feel like we’re the tamest four 20-year-old actors you can find in LA, really. The most extravagant thing we do is get dinner,’ Timothée said.

Timothée also revealed that Javier, 54, and Josh, 55, were ‘properly intimidated’ when Walken came on set.

‘They became little boys, like tails between their legs. Babies. It was adorable,’ Florence confirmed.

Timothée, who portrays Paul Atreides in the Dune films, also shared that he was obsessed with Top Gun: Maverick while they were filming and he rented out a theater in Budapest to drag the cast and crew to see it.

‘For me it was like the 12th time or something,’ Timothée said as he admitted to his obsession with the film starring Tom Cruise, 61.

Florence, Zendaya, Timothée and Austin also played a fun True or False game with Jimmy in which they learned more about each other.

Zendaya shared that it was true that she had to repeat kindergarten after Florence, Timothée and Austin held up sandworm paddles reading False.

‘I did kindergarten twice. I was too shy. So, when I didn’t understand something in class, I wouldn’t say I need help. And they would move on. And I didn’t, I couldn’t keep up. So, I did it twice,’ Zendaya said.

Florence during the game also confirmed it was true that Snoop Dogg, 52, once got her mother Deborah high.

Austin is a newcomer for the Dune sequel and will play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Baron Harkonnen’s young nephew, and planned successor as ruler of Arrakis.

The role was previously played by Sting in David Lynch’s 1984 version of Dune.

Dune: Part Two was originally meant to be released on October 20, 2023, before being pushed back to November 17, and later to March 15, 2024, due to the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.

After multiple delays, the film is now set to be released in theaters on March 1 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The sci-fi sequel, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is being co-produced with Legendary Entertainment in addition to Warner Bros. Film Group.

Dune: Part One and Part Two are based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name, which was originally published in 1965.

The official logline for Dune: Part 2 reads: ‘Paul faces a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.’

One of the first attempts to adapt the novel into a film was led by director Alejandro Jodorowsky, and although the project was ultimately canceled, his efforts were documented in the 2013 feature Jodorowsky’s Dune.

David Lynch, 78, went on to direct an adaptation of Dune, which was critically panned upon its release in 1984.

Villeneuve became attached to the new versions of the project in 2016, and Dune: Part One was eventually released in 2021.
