First coronavirus death in Europe: Chinese tourist, 80, DIES in French hospital after being struck down with bug
A coronavirus patient in France has died, becoming the first fatality of the infection in Europe.
French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn confirmed the death of an 80-year-old Chinese tourist today.
France has recorded 11 cases of the virus, out of a global total of 63,851. The vast majority of those suffering from the virus are in China.
The epidemic has killed almost 1,400 people.
It is also the first death outside of Asia. Only three deaths have so far been recorded outside mainland China – in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan.
