Steph McGovern has revealed why she isn’t worried about being on TV after the alleged Holly Willoughby ‘kidnap plot’.
The TV presenter, 41, has been rumoured to be a top contender to take over Holly’s This Morning hosting job after her own show Steph’s Packed Lunch was axed.
Holly confirmed that she would be stepping down after 14 years on the ITV show with immediate effect, after an alleged kidnap plot against her was foiled.
But Steph told how it hasn’t made her wary about being on TV and in the spotlight because she doesn’t think she is ‘as famous’ as Holly, 42.
Speaking to MailOnline before the axing of her own show was revealed, she said: ‘I think we’re all aware that we have a certain responsibility on air and there’s such a mix of people out there watching.’

Hard times: Holly confirmed that she would be stepping down after 14 years on the ITV show with immediate effect, after an alleged kidnap plot against her was foiled
‘I don’t think I’m as famous as Holly Willoughby if I’m honest, so I probably won’t ever have that problem,’ she added as she spoke at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards in London’s Roundhouse.
Steph also wished Holly all the best as she discussed the presenter’s departure from This Morning, and didn’t shut down making a move to the ITV show herself.
Of Holly’s exit, she said: ‘I don’t know her – I know she’s a fantastic broadcaster, so I wish her well. I don’t think I’ve actually even met her before.’
When asked if she would consider taking a hosting job on This Morning, Steph added: ‘I’m very happy at Channel 4, but never say never.’
Her comments came days before it was announced that Steph’s Packed Lunch has been axed after just three years.
Steph’s Channel 4 show will come to an end in December and it has since been rumoured that Steph is ‘in the running’ for Holly’s This Morning job.
Confirming the axing, a statement said: ‘With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy and we have decided not to recommission Steph’s Packed Lunch when its existing production contract ends in December 2023.
‘We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50% origination out-of-London target.

‘We will be reinvesting the budget previously committed to Steph’s Packed Lunch into other nations and regions productions.’
A spokesperson for the producers, Expectation and Can Can, told MailOnline: ‘We’ve had over three fantastic years producing Steph’s Packed Lunch together and working with the brilliant Steph McGovern and the outstanding on-screen family of talent. We’re very disappointed that despite building a loyal audience we don’t get to continue brightening up 12-2 on Channel 4.
‘Leeds didn’t have a live television community four years ago and it’s been a privilege to build a team which boasts some of the brightest, sharpest TV producers in the country.’
Cast and crew have been informed that the last show will air in December.
The show, which debuted in 2020 and is broadcast from Leeds Dock, is live and features items including showbiz interviews and news segments.
Last month, ITV’s This Morning poached Channel 4’s executive producer Vivek Sharmar, who worked alongside Steph.
Vivek is reportedly ‘a huge champion’ of Steph – meaning the star could now be in the running to take over from Holly.
Holly shared a statement on social media earlier this month confirming that she would be stepping down from This Morning with immediate effect, after an alleged kidnap plot against her was foiled.
Gavin Plumb, 36, from Harlow, Essex, is accused of offences including soliciting to commit murder and incitement to commit kidnap in relation to the broadcaster, allegedly contacting a hitman in the US and booking him flights.

Holly left the daytime show for the sake of her family, after a turbulent year which saw her enveloped in the ‘queue-gate’ scandal and saw co-host Phillip Schofield quit the show following an affair with a colleague which he had lied about.
Her statement read: ‘This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive.
‘To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you. Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.
‘It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all so much.’
