Erling Haaland ignored by Gibraltar players after refusing to swap shirts back in March.

Erling Haaland accused of having no ‘class’ after he ‘LAUGHED and WALKED OFF’ when Gibraltar’s captain asked Borussia Dortmund star to swap shirts because his son was a ‘massive fan’ after a World Cup qualifier in March

  •  But striker Reece Styche has revealed  ‘no-one wanted Haaland shirt in Oslo’

  • Styche has attacked the Bundesliga frontman’s ‘class’ after the incident

Gibraltar players deliberately snubbed Erling Haaland following their 2022 World Cup qualifier last week and have accused the Borussia Dortmund striker of lacking class.

Haaland scored a hat-trick as Norway trounced Gibraltar 5-1 in Oslo on September 7, but the visitors deliberately ignored him after the final whistle.

In normal circumstances, the shirt of one of the hottest properties in world football would be a highly-coveted memento, but Gibraltar striker Reece Styche revealed his teammates wanted to send a message to the Norweigian, after he had refused to swap shirts with their captain in March.

‘None of us wanted Haaland’s shirt, so we snubbed him,’ Styche, who plays for Hednesford Town in English football’s seventh tier, told The Sun.

‘Last March, our skipper Roy Chipolina asked for Haaland’s shirt when we met in Gibraltar.

‘Norway won 3-0 but Haaland never scored, was substituted after an hour and was in a bit of a mood.

‘After they’d both done TV interviews, Roy said to him: “My little boy’s a massive fan of yours, do you mind swapping jerseys?

‘Haaland just looked at him, laughed and walked off! He can buy a lot of things – but he can’t buy class – perhaps the media hype has gone to his head.’

Styche, who scored his team’s only goal in the loss in Oslo, acknowledged Haaland may have wanted to keep his shirt this time around, too, but said the snub had left a sour taste in the mouth of Gibraltar players.

‘He had the chance to make a little kid’s day, month, year, whatever and he said no. So no-one wanted his shirt in Oslo,’ he continued.

‘Maybe he kept it to mark his hat-trick or gave it to a Norwegian fan because it was their first home match with supporters after Covid.’

Norway’s 5-1 win saw them draw level with the Netherlands on 13 points at the top of Group G after six games, two points ahead of Turkey, whom they face in Istanbul on October 8.

Stale Solbakken’s men host Montenegro three days later and Latvia on November 13, before a potential winner-takes-all showdown against the Netherlands in Amsterdam three days later in the final round of games.

Gibraltar, meanwhile, along with Lithuania and San Marino are one of only three teams to have lost all of their matches in the current World Cup qualifiers.

Haaland’s hat-trick against Gibraltar took his tally for the national team to 12 goals in 15 games since he made his debut in September 2019.

The 21-year-old, who has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City, has hit the ground running so far this season, scoring nine goals in seven games in all competitions.

On Wednesday, the Norwegian was on target as Dortmund opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win away against Besiktas.
