Elon Musk humor site’s Twitter account they’re not funny because they are ‘woke’

Elon Musk has been having a typically eventful Memorial Day weekend, first he was pictured with his new girlfriend in St. Tropez, now he’s taking on a woke satire website on Twitter.

It all started when Musk, 50, posted a meme by Hard Drive magazine without giving credit to the site on Memorial Day.

The meme, which was the headline of an article on the site, read: ‘Zodiac Killer Letter Solved by Opening It With VLC Media Player.’

Musk wrote alongside the meme: ‘Nichememe,’ again without giving any credit to Hard Drive. He later deleted the message.

Musk spent much of his Memorial Day on Twitter, the social media giant he is planning to purchase for $44 billion

The official Hard Drive account replied to the meme asking the world’s richest man to stop ‘cropping our names off our articles.’

Musk responded by saying that the meme was cropped when he first saw it saying: ‘Well, if you make something that looks like a meme and someone (not me) crops off your name, so it goes.’

He then rated the meme giving it a mere ‘6/10.’

The Hard Drive account responded by posting another article that they have written about Musk titled: ‘Elon Musk Admits He Wants to Travel to Mars Because No One Hates Him There Yet.’

Musk responded by telling Hard Drive’s Twitter account that they were ‘less funny than SNL on a bad day.’ He added: ‘This could make a drunk person sober. Try harder!’

Hard Drive responded by posting a photo of Musk in costume as ‘Super Mario’ antagonist Wario during his stint hosting the show in May 2021.

The tweet was accompanied with the words: ‘Well you’re the expert on SNL’s bad days.’

This really set Musk off who wrote in response: ‘The reason you’re not that funny is because you’re woke. Humor relies on an intuitive & often awkward truth being recognized by the audience, but wokism is a lie, which is why nobody laughs.’

Musk’s hosting of SNL’s Mother’s Day episode received mixed reviews with NPR’s ‘All Things Considered’ calling it ‘so-so,’ the LA Times calling a ‘gimmicky ratings grab’ and the New York Post calling it ‘mediocre.’

Regardless of the quality, the episode was a ratings hit for SNL, providing the show with its third highest rating of the season.

Hard Drive describes itself as a ‘very real video games news site that you should not question. Just absorb the information as truth and move on.’

The website began in 2014 as The Hard Times, in 2017 it expanded to a new vertical that was focused on gaming, named Hard Drive.

The company’s CEO Matt Saincome told DailyMail.com that Musk has been engaging with them ‘routinely’ for a few months.

Saincome added: ‘I think he just loves Hard Drive and didn’t have anyone to spend Memorial Day with besides us.’

Following the Musk spat, a new article appeared on Hard Times’ home page titled: ‘Elon Musk Offers to Buy Rake He Stepped On.’

The word woke appears regularly on Musk’s Twitter account. Earlier in May, Musk described being woke as a ‘mind virus.’ A month earlier, Musk said that ‘the woke mind is making Netflix unwatchable.’

Recently Musk described Yale University as ‘the epicenter of the woke mind virus.’

This spat comes amid Musk’s proposed $44 billion takeover of Twitter remains stalled.

A few days before the Hard Times spat, Gary Black, the managing partner of the Future Fund LLC, which owns $50 million of Tesla stock, told The Wall Street Journal that he wished Musk would ‘walk away’ from the Twitter deal.

Musk had also been pictured over Memorial Day weekend dining with his new girlfriend, Australian actress Natasha Bassett, in St. Tropez.

The pair were seen enjoying a meal at the Cheval Blanc hotel, where rooms cost upwards of $1,300-a-night – a drop in the ocean for the world’s richest man.

Musk and Bassett, 27, sat in full view of the hotel’s pool and bathers.

They sipped on rose, ate French fries and chatted animatedly while waiters fluttered by. The pair then strolled hand-in-hand out of the expensive eatery past other sunseekers on the beach.

Bassett, Musk’s youngest girlfriend yet, was elegant in a $698 Zadig and Voltaire dress, silver sandals and a matching bag. Musk, who was dressed less suitably for the weather, wore a dark grey t-shirt, black jeans and black leather Chelsea boots.

The couple are believed to have started dating in February this year, when they were spotted getting off Musk’s private jet in L.A.
