Driver on the run after killing a man as he crossed the street in Melbourne

Pedestrian is killed in a 3am hit-and-run in Melbourne – as cops launch manhunt for driver

A driver is on the run after hitting and killing a man crossing a street in Melbourne’s outer northeast.

The pedestrian was crossing a road in St Helena when he was struck by the vehicle shortly before 3am on Tuesday.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the car that hit the pedestrian did not stop. 

Victoria Police have not said in what direction the vehicle was travelling at the time and the exact circumstances of the crash are under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who might have dashcam footage has been urged to contact police.
