The canine, which is thought to be a lurcher or greyhound, runs beside the grey car on a rural road near Lochgelly, Fife, as its owner continues driving.
Moments later the dog, which is attached to a lead, desperately scrambles away from the vehicle onto a strip of grass after it is almost dragged underneath the wheels.

During the footage, which was captured by another motorist on her mobile phone, the dog tries to keep up with the moving car as its owner drives on the wrong side of the road.
As the driver continues to hold onto the animal’s lead, the terrified canine is almost dragged underneath the wheel and quickly scrambles onto the strip of grass on the side of the road.
The video has since sparked outrage among local animal campaign groups, including the dog walking company GeoPaw Cowdenbeath.
A spokesperson for the company said: ‘I almost cannot believe what I’m seeing.
‘This may look funny to some folk but going by comments from those who have seen the video the dog was absolutely terrified.
‘It’s also extremely dangerous and just the height of stupidity.
‘It’s unbelievable that any human can treat animals like this in this day and age. It’s just sickening.’

Following the shocking scenes, one dog owner suggested police should be treating the incident with greater urgency.
Dog owner Jennifer Sterritt said: ‘I’ve seen time and time again, people complaining about all types of animal abuse, but they are letting the animals down big time.’
