David Foster’s daughter Amy Foster claps back at troll who claims the music producer ‘abandoned’ his children for the son he shares with Katharine McPhee

David Foster’s daughter, Amy S. Foster, came to his defense after an Instagram user criticized his parenting on Friday.

The songwriter, 50, countered the claims that the 74-year-old musician abandoned his older children for his two-year-old toddler son Rennie and insisted that their relationship is ‘great’.

‘We love our dad,’ she said in response to a social media user’s comment on the music producer’s Instagram post of Rennie drumming to Michael Jackson’s Rock WIth You.

‘Our dad loves us and we love how our dad is with Rennie,’ she continued about their half-sibling — who is David’s only son and only child with his current wife, Katharine McPhee, 38.

Amy is one of David’s five daughters, which also includes: Allison Jones Foster, 53; Sara Foster, 42; Erin Foster, 41; and Jordan Foster, 37.

David’s post showing off his toddler son’s musical talent on the drums received a slew of praise and compliments.

One Instagram user pointed out Rennie’s obvious inherited talent and wrote: ‘When you’re [sic] Dad is David Foster.’

In response to that comment, one person wrote: ‘Lol!!!! He is the dad….. He’s also got daughters (he abandoned) older than me..’

Amy then defended her father and shut down the claims as she left a lengthy comment in response.

‘Hi….im a daughter…absolutely no abandonment,’ she wrote before adding that she ‘literally just talked to my dad five minutes ago.’

She also admonished the person behind the comment for leaving a negative comment underneath a sweet video of their baby brother drumming.

She continued: ‘Are you sticking up for us? It’s so hard to tell these days…you see a video with an amazing two year old and your take away [sic] is something negative?

‘All you have to do is look at the comments and Rennie’s sisters have all chimed in with compliments,’ she added. ‘We’re great. We love our dad. Our dad loves us and we love how our dad is with Rennie.’

About a year ago in January 2023, David spoke to People about raising a toddler at his then-age of 73 and said he hoped to be more present than he was when he was working a lot while raising his older kids.

‘At this point in my life, it’s different again,’ he explained to the outlet. ‘Not better or worse, just different. I still work, I’m still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now.’

In a separate interview published by People in July 2020 before Rennie was born, David admitted he had regrets about parenting mistakes he made with his daughters.

‘I missed a lot because I didn’t raise them,’ he explained that he was often away working. ‘The geography was really tough.

‘That was my own doing and a regret that I have, but it was what it was and there was no changing it,’ he continued.

He said he wanted to be more present but he ‘did the best I could, which was quite imperfect at times’.
