Dating guru Jana Hocking clashes with Karl Stefanovic on the Today show over her claims Australian men are ‘duds’

Sydney dating guru Jana Hocking has locked horns with Today show host Karl Stefanovic over her belief that Australian men are ‘duds’ when it comes to courting.

The glamorous columnist ruffled feathers over the weekend when she complained in an article for Daily Mail Australia that men on the Australian dating scene are often overweight, unkempt and poorly dressed.

Jana doubled down on her belief that Aussie men are ‘duds’ during an appearance on Monday’s Today show, telling hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo: ‘They’re just lazy’.

‘They turn up to dates in board shorts, if you turn up to a date. Because first they’ll ask you, “Just come to my house”. Like I’ve never had so many Uber eats in my life!’ she lamented.

Jana also complained men will ask her to meet them at the pub, and then spend the whole night watching the footy or cricket on television.

Karl wasn’t convinced, interjecting: ‘Isn’t that a good date, though?’

‘No! That is a horrible date!’ Jana exclaimed, adding: ‘We live near beaches. We’ve got art galleries!’

‘Who wants to go to an art gallery?’ Karl scoffed. ‘You’re not going to find a real man who wants to do that.’

Jana proceeded to implore Australian men to ‘lift their game’ by wearing cologne, checking for bad breath and regularly brushing their teeth.

‘Like, I’ve had guys drop farts on dates. I’ve had guys turn up and ripped bodies in thongs. Is it too much to ask to just take us for a nice drink?’ she later added.

Karl refused to budge, however, wrapping up the segment by declaring: ‘I still think Aussie guys are the best.’

Last month, Jana penned an article for Daily Mail Australia comparing Aussie men to the suitors she encountered during a recent trip to New York.

‘The one thing New Yorkers don’t do is overthink things. It’s a numbers game and those numbers will occasionally be in your favour,’ she wrote.

‘Ladies, honestly if you are hankering for some good ol’ fashioned flirting in a city that can’t get enough of an Aussie accent you gotta book that trip.’

Jana subsequently revealed that she’d received a barrage of angry messages from Australian men, ‘ranting on and on and on about how we women are all too stuck up these days’.
