Cristiano Ronaldo will NOT travel with Manchester United on their pre-season tour

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘will NOT travel with Manchester United on their pre-season tour’ after being given permission to have more personal leave for family reasons… with club insisting he is not for sale despite Chelsea and Napoli interest

Cristiano Ronaldo will not travel with Manchester United on their pre-season tour on Friday having been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue.

The 37-year-old did not join Erik ten Hag’s side when international players returned for pre-season training on Monday.

Ronaldo has yet to return to United due to family reasons and the club have confirmed he has been given extra time off to deal with the issue.

United’s return to pre-season training came just days after Ronaldo rocked United chiefs after informing them of his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The 37-year-old has become frustrated with the direction the club is heading in and approaching the final years of his professional career is desperate to still play in the Champions League while he still can.

United will tour Thailand and Australia for two weeks before returning to England for the start of the Premier League season in August and it had always looked unlikely Ronaldo would join his team-mates for the tour once it was learned he wished to leave the club.

United’s tour will see them take on bitter rivals Liverpool Bangkok on Tuesday before visiting Melbourne to take on Melbourne Victory then Crystal Palace before finishing the tour with a clash against Aston Villa on July 23.

Ronaldo is now being chased by Napoli as well as Premier League rivals Chelsea, but the club are insistent that he is not for sale after confirming he will miss the pre-season tour due to family reasons.

A United spokesperson said: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United party scheduled to depart for our pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday. He has been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue.’ as reported by MEN.

‘Cristiano remains under contract with Manchester United for another season and he is not for sale.’

While it is unclear when Ronaldo will join up with the United players again should he remain at the club and it is believed his images will still feature in the club’s official kit launch on Friday despite his uncertain future.

Despite United’s firm stance not wanting to sell the player who has one year left on his deal there was speculation on Thursday that the club would listen to offers of around £13million – the same fee they paid to re-sign him from Juventus a year ago.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is thought to be considering a bid after talks with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, with Napoli monitoring matters from the outside.
