Conor McGregor insists he feels ‘tremendous’ after undergoing surgery on broken leg

Conor McGregor says he feels ‘tremendous’ after successfully undergoing surgery on the broken leg suffered in his defeat by Dustin Poirier.

McGregor stumbled back in horrifying fashion after placing his weight down and his left leg buckled from underneath him, with the bout then stopped by doctors at the end of the first round in Las Vegas.

But despite the grim nature of his injury and another chastening loss in their trilogy series, McGregor appeared in high spirits as he thanked fight fans for their support and insisted he would ‘build back’ in a short video.

'Notorious' vowed he would 'build back' and also took aim at Poirier's illegitimate win

‘Just out of the surgery room, everything went to plan,’ McGregor said. ‘Everything went perfect, I’m feeling tremendous.

‘We’ve got six weeks on a crutch now and we begin to build back. I want to thank all the fans all the way around the world for your messages of support.

‘I hope you enjoyed the show. I want to thank all the fans in attendance at the T-Mobile Arena, 21,800 fans in attendance. The place was absolutely electric.

‘It was a hell of a first round. It would have been nice to get into that second round and then see what’s what. But it is what it is. That’s the nature of the business.

‘A clean break of the tibia and it was not to be. Dustin, you can celebrate that illegitimate win all you want, but you’ve done nothing in there.

‘That second round would have shown all. Onwards and upwards we go. We dust ourselves off, we build ourselves back, and we come back better than ever.’

Against the odds, McGregor was able to survive the rest of the round, but he was later forced to leave the octagon on a stretcher – despite previously vowing that Poirier would be the one to exit in the same manner.

And the outspoken Irishman appears to have no interest in leaving his rivalry with Poirier in the past either, in light of his bullish comments to Joe Rogan moments after his leg had shattered.

‘I was boxing the bleedin’ head off him,’ McGregor said while he sat on the floor wearing a brace.

‘Usual s****, dived to close the distance. This is not over.

‘If I have to take this outside with him it’s all outside. I don’t give a b*******.

According to the three judges cageside, Poirier was in firm control of the showdown before the freak leg break.

Sal D’Amato scored it 10-9 to Poirier, while both Derek Cleary and Junichiro Kamijo scored a 10-8 for the Diamond.

A 10-8 verdict is typically rare in MMA, and signifies a round of real dominance.

Dustin Poirier’s wife gives Conor McGregor the MIDDLE FINGER as he lays injured on Octagon floor before Notorious again claims she ‘is in my DMs’ following crushing UFC 264 defeat by the American

Dustin Poirier’s wife handed out the middle finger to Conor McGregor as he laid injured on the floor after his devastating loss to the American at UFC 264.

McGregor broke his leg in the first round of his much-anticipated trilogy fight with the American as he was declared the loser through doctor stoppage in Las Vegas.

There was plenty of bad blood in the build up to the meeting, with the Irishman tweeting a video to back up his claims Poirier’s wife Jolie had tried to message him on his Instagram, with the captions: ‘#SheLyinToYouBro #ThatsWifey #ProperIrishAnimal’.

The taunts continued post-fight with Jolie exacting her revenge as she was spotted showing a middle finger to the Notorious as he was unable to stand up following Poirier’s victory.

There had been plenty of trash-talking by McGregor about Jolie (right) prior to the fight

But McGregor then once again claimed ‘Your wife is in my DMs’ as the Irishman seemed in no mood to accept defeat as the trash-talking continued.

He said: ‘I was boxing the bleedin’ head off him, kicking the bleedin’ leg off him. Usual s***e, dive to close the distance. This is not over. I have to take this outside with him, it’s on.

‘I don’t give a b******s. There was no check. There was not one of them was a check.

‘Your wife is in my DM’s. Hey baby, hit me back up and I’ll chat to you later on.’
