Cobra Kai season five set to debut in September as Netflix unveils new teaser trailer for fans

Fans of Cobra Kai will get to see their favorite characters strike first and strike hard sooner than they may have thought.

Netflix released a two minute-long trailer for the show’s upcoming fifth season and announced a September 9 release date.

The first look was originally shown at the Cobra Kai: Live & Bad Ass event on Thursday, one of the many events at Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival in Los Angeles.

No mercy: Fans of Cobra Kai will get to see their favorite characters strike first and strike hard sooner than they may have thought

The clip begins with students chanting Cobra Kai and recaps the end of last season. The titular dojo, led by Thomas Ian Griffith’s Terry Silver, defeated dojos run by Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Danny LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) at the All-Valley Karate tournament.

Lawrence and LaRusso were forced to shut down their dojos as a result, and it appears Silver will attempt to open more locations throughout the Los Angeles area without any competition standing in his way.

LaRusso shows his old nemesis from Karate Kid 2 Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) a commercial for Cobra Kai and says, ‘This is what we’re up against.’

Meanwhile, Lawrence drives with his son Robbie (Tanner Buchanan) down to Mexico to find his best student, and Robbie’s nemesis, Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), who is looking for his own father.

Robbie asks his dad if he has a plan to which Lawrence replies, ‘Of course I do. I’ll ask around if anyone saw Miguel.’

The trailer then cuts to a clip of Lawrence performing several powerful karate moves on a large bouncer at what appears to be an underground fighting club, knocking him out.

While that is happening, Peyton List, who plays Tory Nichols in the show and is dating her co-star Jacob Bertrand in real life, stares at a championship trophy warily, knowing that Silver paid off the judge in her final match against LaRusso’s daughter Sam (Mary Mouser).

September 9, the release date for the new season, then flashes on the screen before the trailer comes to a close.

Cobra Kai’s most recent season came out on December 31 of last year, and the wait between it and the upcoming season is shorter than the wait between seasons in years past.

The series premiered on YouTube Red on May 2, 2018 and was picked up by Netflix prior to Season 3. It has slowly incorporated new karate trainees with characters from the hit 1980s films.
