The man who confessed to kidnapping Cleo Smith faces charges of possessing of child exploitation material 

Terence Darrell Kelly will front court next month on 10 counts of possessing child exploitation material with details of the alleged offences not yet revealed. 

The allegations are not connected to the kidnapping of Cleo, who Kelly has admitted taking from her parents’ tent while they were camping at the Blowholes north of Carnarvon, Western Australia, last October.

Kelly, 36, will face court on the latest allegations on May 13, when he is also expected to find out when he will be sentenced over the abduction of Cleo.

He is also enter to enter pleas on some other charges.

Kelly denies he assaulted a police officer during an incident at Carnarvon police cells on November 3. 

He made national headlines last October when Cleo was discovered in Kelly’s Tonkin Crescent home in Carnarvon, having been held there for 18 days.

Kelly admitted to snatching her from a tent on October 16 last year as she holidayed with her mother Ellie Smith, stepfather Jake Gliddon and her sister at a campsite about 80km north of Carnarvon. 

Her disappearance sparked a massive search operation in the area and appeals for information by police services across Australia.

WA police found the girl inside Kelly’s locked house in the early hours of November 3 last year. Kelly was apprehended driving a car a short time later.

Afterwards Kelly’s obsession with Bratz dolls was revealed via his social media accounts, including pictures of a room inside his house full of the toys. 

On January 24 this year, Kelly pleaded guilty to a single charge of taking Cleo from her family’s tent at the remote Blowholes campsite.

The 36-year-old admitted to the abduction during a brief court appearance in Carnarvon in a video link from a prison 900km south of the town.

He faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison on a conviction of forcibly taking a child aged under 16.
