Cate Blanchett cuts a quirky figure in a unique faded denim suit as she attends Sophie’s Choice’s 40th anniversary screening in New York

Cate Blanchett cut a quirky figure as she attended a 40th anniversary screening of Sophie’s Choice at New York’s Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday.

The Australian actress, 54, showed off her unique sense of style in a denim suit, made up of a plunging two-tone faded jacket and matching straight leg trousers.

She boosted herself a few extra inches in a pair of pointed black heels and accessorised with a very chunky silver jewelled necklace.

Cate accentuated her features with a dewy makeup palette and was joined by Ethan Hawke as they smiled for snaps together at the event.

Ethan, 53, cut a casual figure in grey trousers and a red plaid shirt, which he styled with dark teal trainers and a smart navy jacket.

Cate’s appearance at the screening comes after she has had a busy few weeks on set for her upcoming film Father, Mother, Sister, Brother.

She has been on location in the Republic of Ireland, where principal photography is underway for the Jim Jarmusch directed movie, which is shrouded in mystery.

Cate last worked with Jim on the 2003 anthology film Coffee & Cigarettes, which also featured Steve Buscemi and Iggy Pop.

Father, Mother, Sister, Brother will be Jim’s first movie in five years – as the Ohio-born director revealed the project was in the works during a candid conversation at the Overlook Film Festival in April last year.

‘The film we’re preparing now for late this year to shoot, probably, I think, may have no music […] It’s a very subtle film; it’s very quiet. And I think music could move it too much one way — it’s a funny and sad film, right?

‘It sort of has both woven in. I don’t know if I wanna have music to add some other thing over it. It doesn’t really want it so far,’ he revealed.

To date, no additional information has been revealed about the plot or cast, however, it has been rumoured that filming will be completed by spring 2024.

Cate kicked off work on her latest project after completing work on Guy Maddin’s ensemble comedy Rumours with Alicia Vikander.

She has also recently finished filming Borderlands, which is an American sci-fi movie based on the video game of the same name.

Despite the delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, the actress has been very busy and is also set to appear in Alfonso Cuaron’s Apple TV thriller series.

Away from work, Cate recently sparked a row with neighbors after she revealed plans to turn a field into a driveway and parking for her £5million (AU$9.6million) holiday home in Cornwall.

The Hollywood star and her husband Andrew Upton have been accused of ‘snapping up the land’ to stop anyone from building anything next door.

Neighbours had already accused the Lord of the Rings star of damaging a sensitive coastal wildlife habitat by demolishing a cottage to make way for a much larger eco-friendly home.

The home, once finished, will boast four bedrooms, a basement swimming pool, showers, and an area for surfboards and wetsuits.
