San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was so confident his team would win the NFC Championship that he told general manager John Lynch before the game that he’d ‘see him on stage’ for the postgame celebrations.
San Francisco went on to overcome a 17-point deficit in the second half of the game to defeat the Detroit Lions and set up a Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Shanahan’s conversation with Lynch was caught by ‘Inside the NFL’ microphones and began with the GM noting that the game would be ‘some fun’.
In response, the coach said: ‘Oh yeah,’ before adding: ‘See you on stage, man.’
Lynch then laughs out loud and says, ‘I like it, I like it.’

The 49ers went on to win the game against the Detroit Lions after a 17-point comeback
Despite Shanahan’s confidence, ending up on stage after the game looked bleak for the 49ers during their first two quarters of football against the Lions.
San Francisco started the comeback by scoring a 43-yard field goal before wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk scored a touchdown, followed by another score from McCaffrey that tied up the game.
After reaching the fourth quarter San Francisco knocked in another field goal to take a three-point advantage before backup running back Elijah Mitchell scored from three yards out to put the 49ers up 34-24.
Detroit tried to pull off a miracle comeback and picked up a touchdown on a pass to Williams, but they were unable to recover the onside kick that followed in order to give themselves a shot.
