A Pittsburgh bridge collapsed just hours before President Biden is set to visit the city to tout his $1.2 billion infrastructure bill. 

Police reported that the span, located in the city’s Frick Park neighborhood, collapsed around 6 am on Friday morning. 

Several cars as well as a Port Authority bus were involved in the collapse but there were no initial reports of injuries, Pittsburgh Public Safety said.  

CBS Pittsburgh reported that there were three passengers on the bus and the driver but none were injured.

It is not yet known what caused the bridge to give out.

A local resident described what the collapse sounded like. 

‘It sounded like a huge snow plow … pushing along the surface with no snow,’ neighbor Wendy Stroh told CBS Pittsburgh. ‘I didn’t know what it was … It was very frightening.’

Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the area as emergency crews attend to the scene. 

The bridge collapse happened to occur on the same day that Biden is visiting Pittsburgh to discuss infrastructure.  

As part of his trip, the president will visit the research and development hub of Mill 19, which was part of the infrastructure deal passed by Congress last year, the Washington Post reported.
