Boy, 15, dies and 15-year-old girl passenger is injured when car he is driving flips onto its roof as second driver is arrested over death crash

  • Boy, 15, died at scene after collision in Knowle, Solihull, around 9.30pm last night
  • Female passenger, 15, taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious 
  • Another driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving
  • Police are in ‘early stages’ of investigation and still need to gather  evidence

A 15-year-old boy has died and a teenage girl passenger has been injured after a car flipped onto its roof, with a second driver being arrested over the fatal crash.

The boy who was driving a silver Renault Clio passed away at the scene following a collision on Kenilworth Road in Knowle, Solihull, at around 9.30pm last night.

A passenger, also 15, was treated at the scene and taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious. 

West Midlands Police stated that the driver of another car, thought to be a grey Peugeot 206, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody. 

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the family of the young man involved.

‘We are in the early stages of our investigation and still need to gather all available evidence.

‘With this in mind I would ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances of the collision, especially on social media.

‘This does nothing to help our investigation or support the families and others involved.’

The force added that the 15-year-old boy’s family is being supported by specialist officers.

It also appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the vehicles to get in touch via live chat, email or calling 101.
