WWE superstar Big E revealed that he has been advised by doctors never to return to the ring after suffering a broken neck in a match last year.
One of the most popular performers in the WWE as part of the New Day, the former powerlifter has endured an extended spell on the sidelines since suffering the injury during an episode of SmackDown in March 2022.
The injury came during a match with former rugby league prop Ridge Holland when a botched belly-to-belly suplex outside the ring caused him to suffered a broken neck, with fractures to his C1 vertebrae and C6 vertebrae.
Despite nearly a year and a half having passed since the injury, the 37-year-old admitted that he is no clearer on if he will ever return to action.
‘We did the year checkup and all that stuff looked great.’ Big E told reporters at a press conference ahead of WWE’s Summerslam premium live event.

‘But on the other side, I talked to spine specialists, people who have worked on other people in the company and done their fusions and they said like “hey, I would not wrestle again if I were you.”‘
While he is still no clearer on whether he will ever step foot through the ropes again, the eight-time tag team champion insisted that he feels grateful to not be suffering any nerve pain from the incident.
‘I don’t really have a timeline right now. I’m just really grateful to not have any nerve pain.
‘My strength is great, legit no issues whatsoever. So it’s just something I want to be smart about and make the very best decision for my life, hopefully I’d like to have have a lot of healthy life ahead of me.
‘Unfortunately, right now, I have no answers. I feel great, but yeah, I have nothing.’
