Backlog of of weddings promises bliss for Fuller’s: Pub chain toasts a return to profit and a recent rise in sales

A ‘backlog of weddings’ will put Fuller’s on track for a strong summer, its boss said – despite concerns over consumer confidence.

The pub group yesterday toasted a return to profit and hailed a recent rise in sales. Chief executive Simon Emeny said that delayed events from the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic have put the company in a strong position for the summer.

Nevertheless, the company highlighted that market condition are challenging amid fragile consumer confidence due to rampant inflation.

The company swung back to an adjusted pre-tax profit of £7.2million for the year to March, compared with a £48.7million loss in the previous year.

Revenues soared to £253.8million for the year, compared with £73.2million in the previous year, when it had been particularly hammered by lockdowns.
