An Australian woman has been forced to put her new umbrella up for sale after her neighbours complained that it hangs too far over the fence between their properties.

The listing for the large market umbrella was posted to a ‘sell your stuff’ Facebook group on Friday.

‘Our neighbours have complained our beautiful new umbrella hangs over our fence by a handspan and have asked us to get rid of it,’ the listing wrote.

‘As we have nowhere else to put it, we have to sell.’

The large market umbrella is said to hang over the side of the fence 'by a handspan' leaving her neighbours asking her to get rid of it

Two images accompany the listing, showing the black and white striped umbrella sitting on a table in a small courtyard.

While the umbrella is quite large in size, it seems to hardly disturb the neighbours’ side of the fence, leading fellow Facebook users to express their discontentment on behalf of the seller.

Many have sent her ideas of how to fix the problem without having to sell her brand new umbrella.

‘Your neighbour sounds like a twat,’ one wrote. ‘If you lower down the crank a little it will shrink it down a tad.’

‘Get rid of the neighbours,’ said another. ‘I hope a weed is not coming through the bottom of your fence. Your neighbours should get a life.’

‘Sew some leaves on the end and pretend its a tree,’ commented one.

Some commenters were more sympathetic towards her neighbours.

‘I can understand their concerns. It has a large area and when it rains there would be quite a bit of runoff. What a shame you didn’t measure it first up,’ wrote one.

‘They (the woman) can’t even fit all the chairs around the table with that umbrella even if they move it closer to the house,’ said one doubtful user. ‘Maybe if they had accurately measured the space beforehand it wouldn’t have been an issue.’
