Aussie mums lust over ABC News Breakfast presenter Tony Armstrong: ‘Criminally gorgeous. Make him stop’

Tony Armstrong has set hearts aflutter across Australia, but his biggest fans appear to be mums.

The ABC News Breakfast host, 33, has a loyal following among middle-aged and elderly women thanks to his fun personality and ‘criminally gorgeous’ looks.

A Reddit user revealed on Tuesday their 79-year-old mother giggles whenever she sees him on television, and wondered if anyone else’s mother acts the same way.

‘Anyone else’s mother just really love ABC TV’s Tony Armstrong? My 79-year-old mother adores him,’ they said.

‘One morning I was with her and he was doing a live link from somewhere and I just commented he didn’t seem to have brushed his hair.

‘Mum just chuckled delightedly and said, “Well, you know what Tony is like.” Then the other morning she was giggling at something he was doing saying, “Oh, he is mad, that Tony.”‘

Other Redditors were quick to agree, with one writing: ‘Yep, mum, sister, me and my husband… all guilty of it! Why can’t all news be presented by Tony Armstrong?’

Another said: ‘My mum described him the other day saying, “You know that good looking young Aboriginal man? I don’t know his name.” Like, “Yep, say no more, mum. I know the one. He is mighty fine that’s for sure.”‘

The former AFL star has even captured the hearts of straight men.

‘As a hetero dude, I am well comfortable saying he is one sexy dude,’ one commented.

An older gentleman said that while he is ‘not that way inclined’ he can recognise how ‘lovely’ Tony is, suggesting a mum wouldn’t be ‘true blue Aussie’ if she wasn’t ‘into him’.

The original poster also managed to round up some new fans.

‘I’d never heard of him so I had a Google. Criminally gorgeous. Make him stop,’ someone posted to the thread.

Tony rose to fame on the footy field playing for the Adelaide Crows, Sydney Swans and Collingwood Magpies between 2010 to 2015.

He pivoted careers in 2020 when he joined the ABC as a sports presenter and commentator for Grandstand AFL and the host of Offsiders summer series.
