‘Aussie Cossack’ hails Novak Djokovic’s father for ‘supporting the cause’ of pro-Russian fans

‘Aussie Cossack’ hails Novak Djokovic’s father for ‘supporting the cause’ of pro-Russian fans at the Australian Open… and claims demonstrators deliberately targeted Serb’s matches in Melbourne to promote Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

A pro-Russia online commentator wanted by Australian police has claimed ‘victory’ for successfully infiltrating the Australian Open and promoting their nation’s invasion of Ukraine during matches involving champion Novak Djokovic.

‘Aussie Cossack’ Simeon Boikov had a warrant issued for his arrest on Wednesday after failing to turn up to court on Sunday and seeking refuge in the Russian consulate in Sydney.

He faces a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm following an incident involving a 76-year-old man at a rally in support of Ukraine in December at Sydney’s Town Hall

During Sunday night’s Australian Open men’s final Boikov released a video on YouTube showing him appearing on a Russian news television show during Novak Djokovic’s semi-final against American Tommy Paul on Friday night.

In the video, Boikov claimed victory for the Russian protests at Melbourne Park and said Djokovic’s father Srđan deserved ‘honour and glory’ for supporting their cause at the Grand Slam.

Russian and Belarusian flags were banned from the Australian Open because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, however there have been incidents involving flags being snuck into Melbourne Park and protestors showing their support for Russian president Vladimir Putin and the invasion of Ukraine.

One Russian fan was ejected from Rod Laver Arena for wearing a shirt with Russia’s ultra-nationalist ‘Z’ war symbol while Djokovic’s father Srđan voluntarily banned himself from the Australian Open final following backlash over video footage of him mingling with pro-Russian protestors.

Boikov posted video of him appearing on Russian news on Sunday declaring that the Russian protestors had claimed victory for their efforts during the Australian Open.

‘So we can say that the goals and objectives of the Russian community have been achieved,’ he said.

‘We showed the Russian spirit. We showed that we can’t be stopped. Impossible to shut us up. ‘We will never hide our state symbols, our national flag, visual support for the Donetsk People’s Republic.’

The Donetsk People’s Republic is an unrecognised republic of Russia in the occupied parts of eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast that is being contested by both Russian and Ukranian armed forces.

The show’s host then praised Boikov and the Russian protestors in Australia who acted during the grand slam. ‘You are great fellows, we are very proud. Victory will be ours,’ he said.

Boikov also said in the interview that the Russian flags and Z symbol had been a calculated movement targeting the Australian Open.

‘We definitely had to plan such a small, local, special operation, just to spite the enemies,’ he said.

‘Unfurl Russian flags. They banned the tricolour [Russian flag], then our guys unfurled the flag of the Russian Empire and it was also banned.

‘The flag of Belarus – banned. T-shirts with the letter Z, banned. ‘In the end this situation reached such a crisis peak when the Western press with Ambassador of Ukraine together they pressure Novak Djokovic’s father and demanded his deportation from the country,’ he said.

‘Demanded that he publicly repent. In that he, together with his fans, allowed himself to say the words “Zhiveli Russia” [Long live Russia, long live the Russians].

‘That’s the whole conflict. But he must be given due honour and glory, Srđan Djokovic. He refused to apologise. He refused to go on about and so to speak defended to the end.

‘His honour and the honour of Russia and simply decided to boycott the semi-final.’

Russian and Belarusian tennis players were only allowed to compete under a neutral flag at the Australian Open after being banned from the Wimbledon Championships in 2022.

Djokovic was infamously deported from Australia prior to the 2022 Open because of his vaccination status.

The Serbian claimed his his 10th Australian Open title on Sunday night with a straight sets win over Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
