Alternative John Lewis Christmas advert about an elderly man and his dog leaves viewers in tears

Viewers eagerly awaiting the John Lewis Christmas advert can get their festive tearjerker fix with this heart-wrenching music video.

The five-minute clip tells the story of a lonely elderly man and his beloved Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bruno, who do everything together, from cuddling on the sofa to going to the pub, before tragedy strikes.

It is accompanied by the moving charity single Don’t Let Me Go, by independent singer-songwriter Sam Clegg, from Keighley, in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Sam, 22, released the single through online retailers Apple Music and Amazon earlier this month to raise money for charities supporting elderly people this festive season. The single is currently No. 2 on the Amazon Music Chart.

Explaining the tragic message, Sam wrote on YouTube: ‘This story is one of loss and sorrow which some viewers may find distressing, but with this video/campaign we hope to turn a negative into a positive by donating all of the proceeds made from the song to multiple charities that support the elderly in the UK.’

He added: ‘With each £0.79p purchase it will help give support and companionship to the elderly who need it most in 2020. 100 per cent of the money will be donated to charity.’
