Alan Shearer has taken to social media to jokingly weigh in on Harry Kane’s ongoing transfer saga.

After a summer full of speculation, Tottenham have agreed a deal worth £100m with Bayern Munich to sign the England captain.

Kane is scheduled to fly out to Germany  on Friday with negotiations ongoing, with a move appearing increasingly likely.

Though many fans may be disappointed should Kane choose not to continue plying his trade in the Premier League, former Newcastle star Shearer took the opposite view in a post on Twitter.

The 52-year-old shared a photo of himself mocked up as an airline pilot, accompanying the photo with the caption: ‘Come on Harry it’s time to go!’

One of the main talking points emanating from Kane’s mooted move to the Bundesliga is the Premier League goalscoring record.

Shearer currently holds the record, having netted 260 times across 441 appearances for Blackburn and Newcastle; with the former Southampton star having scored a further 23 top-flight goals prior to the Premier League’s founding.

Kane meanwhile remains in hot pursuit of the coveted record, just 47 behind Shearer while having made 121 fewer appearances in the competition.

Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand expressed their contrasting opinions on the individual accolades vs silverware debate on social media on Thursday.

‘Alan Shearer’s PL goal record gets talked about a lot more than his PL winners medal. That record will be huge for HK,’ Carragher wrote on Twitter.

‘The big plus for going to Bayern is to guarantee he plays CL football & a chance to win that trophy every season. It’s not about their domestic trophies, they’ll win them anyway & I’m sure he’d rather have the PL record than the Bundesliga!’

Moments later, Ferdinand waded into the debate and struck a differing tone.

‘You don’t start ya [sic] career saying you want to win the golden boot winner – you want to win things for ya team,’ he said.

‘You only make it personal honors when that’s ya only option! Good luck @HKane.’

Despite his successes, Kane has yet to win a trophy as a senior player, and Bayern’s dominance of the German top flight offers an almost-guaranteed route to silverware in the years to come.

Success in Europe has also been a regular feature of the Bavarian club’s recent history.

Amidst significant internal strife last season, Bayern still managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League before being defeated by eventual winners Manchester City.
