ESPN’s Pat McAfee has stated that his friend and injured New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers ‘is just as devastated as all of us’ after injury ended his NFL season.
Within the last 24 hours, Rodgers has become the owner of perhaps the most popular torn Achilles in the world following the unfortunate injury he suffered only four plays into in his Jets debut against the Buffalo Bills.
‘I haven’t talked to him since the injury, but I’ve talked to people in his very tight circle,’ McAfee said on Tuesday in an appearance on First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe. ‘The way he is, is just as devastated as all of us obviously.
‘The amount he invested into this season, you heard Alex Smith talk about it last night on Monday Night Countdown because he’s been friends with him for so long,’ McAfee continued.
‘This is the best shape he’s been in, the most energized he’s been, he felt like he had real…I don’t want to say sway or influence but actual say with what was going on in the New York Jets organization which was something that he yearned for a long time….’

Following the news of Rodgers injury the Jets confirmed Zach Wilson will be the starting QB
‘We watch on Hard Knocks, he’s changing plays and doing his thing. It’s like if he did all that and four plays happen and then it’s over, he sees it as a sign from the Universe. I think that is a damn terrible way to go out of your NFL career.’
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh not only doubled down on the fact that Zach Wilson would be the starting QB but also sternly stated: ‘I don’t know why people are trying to put an obituary under our name.’
Wilson had been the Jets starter for the last several years but was demoted to back up duty following an abysmal season that led to NY trading for Rodgers in the NFL’s story of the summer.
The plan for the 2021 No. 2 overall pick was to learn from Rodgers this season, however that plan quickly eroded when a sack from Bills DE Leonard Floyd quickly changed the course of Jets history.
McAfee went on to say that if Rodgers were to commit to the grueling rehab required to come back and play after suffering the Achilles tear, he would have a newfound level of respect and appreciation for the nearly 40-year-old QB’s work ethic and commitment to the game.
It should also be noted that Rodgers and McAfee are both good friends, and the relationship between the two has led to Rodgers constantly featuring on McAfee’s show.
It was also recently confirmed that Rodgers was still planning to appear in his normal Tuesday slot on the show going forward following McAfee’s debut on ESPN, although for obvious reasons he did not appear this week.
