Democratic lawmakers have been vocal in their criticism of President Trump’s conduct during the recent Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with several calling for apologies and condemning the behavior as un-American.

Madeleine Dean, a U.S. House representative from Pennsylvania, did not mince words in her response. She called on Trump and Vice President Vance to apologize for their “disgraceful behaviour,” describing it as “so un-American.”

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s The World Tonight, Dean said, “They acted like two 7th grade bullies,” and pointed to JD Vance for having “egged on” the argument. She also criticized Trump for escalating the situation “in grotesque ways, so much of it not based in the truth.”

Dean, who visited Ukraine last year, emphasized the gratitude expressed by Zelensky and his team, noting:

“What I have heard from Mr Zelensky, from everyone who works with him, from the generals on the ground and the ordinary foot soldier is thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, we depend upon you.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also weighed in, calling the interaction a “shameful display.”

“It would’ve been a show of strength for the President of the United States to bring the elected leader of Ukraine to the Oval Office and engage with him in a dignified way”.

Then added:

“But you would never know that after President Trump’s shameful display. Putin must be overjoyed with today’s theatrics.”
