A devastating house fire in Rokeby, eastern Hobart, has claimed the life of a baby and left several others injured. Emergency services were called to the home on Benboyd Circle at approximately 9 am on Sunday, following reports of the blaze. Upon arrival, Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service crews found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Sadly, the fire claimed the life of an infant who was found deceased inside the residence. In addition to the loss of the baby, another young child and an adult were transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries. Three other children were also hospitalized, though their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Tasmania Police expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected.” The Tasmania Fire Service is now investigating the cause of the fire, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner. The tragic incident has left the local community in mourning, and support is being offered to those impacted.
