Labor MP for Parramatta Julie Owens has announced she will quit before the next election. 

The 63-year-old criminal lawyer said she she wants to spend more time with her grandchildren. 

‘I’ve been thinking about it for a while,’ she told the Parramatta Advertiser.

‘I’m 63-years-old. I got married last year and I want to spend time with my grandchildren. It’s been fantastic but I’d be 67 at the next election.’

Parramatta is a marginal seat in western Sydney that will be targeted by the Liberals at the election due before May.
